Patients may require some help when it comes to ordering our contac t lens products online. Please see the information below which details some information about how to go about using our online service.
The first point of call is making sure the contact lenses you choose correct your vision problem. Each lens must properly fit your cornea, which is why there are parameters, which take into account size, shape and power. All of which are assessed by your optometrist, and they decide which lens is right for you based on this. The optometrist also takes into account your special needs (e.g. those who may suffer from dry eyes or astigmatism), whether you have a desire for colour change and whether you can care for the contact lenses.
Eyesite Eyecare Centres provides a range of contact lenses. Your optometrist should advise you to the best one to choose however below is some information about the types of contact lenses we have on offer below:
Frequent Replacement Soft lenses: Soft lenses are made of a soft plastic and are more comfortable than hard lenses because they hold more water. They are usually disposable and can be thrown away after a short period of use, generally every two to four weeks or daily, depending on the type of lens prescribed. Being able to have a fresh pair of lenses means less chance of infection, less cleaning, and more comfort.
Rigid gas permeable (RGP) hard contact lenses: Rigid gas permeable lenses, or hard contact lenses, are more rigid than soft lenses and therefore more durable. Compared to soft contact lenses, hard contacts maintain their shape better and offer clearer vision for some types of corrections. They also require less cleaning than soft lenses.
Daily disposable contact lenses: Daily disposable contact lenses are only worn once and then thrown away. The benefits of Daily Disposables include never having to clean your contact lenses, convenient replacement schedule, and reduction of dry eye and irritation related to contact solutions. If you are an allergy sufferer, these are the contacts for you.
Silicone extended wear disposables: Silicone extended wear disposable contact lenses are made with a new material that can be worn for up to 30 nights and days. The new silicone material also prevents deposit build up and reduces dry eye irritation.
Toric contact lenses: Toric contact lenses are special lenses for people with astigmatism. They made from the same material as other contact lenses and come in soft or rigid gas permeable forms.
Coloured contact lenses: Coloured tints can be added to certain contact lenses that make them easier to see when handling, enhance or change eye color, and improve contrast for outdoor sports, like golf and softball.
Have a look at the product description below each product, to see if the contact lens is appropriate. If you require any extra help contact us or make a call to your nearest branch.
The information regarding the base curve, diameter, sphere, cylinder (toric lenses only) and axis (toric lenses only) will be found on the back of your previous contact lens box. Alternatively will be on your contact lens prescription. What each of these parameters mean is summarised below:
Base curve – Also known as the Back Optic Zone Radius (BOZR), measured in millimetres and is a measurement of the radius of the back surface of the contact lens.
Diameter - Also known as the Total Diameter (TD) measured in millimetres and is the total diameter of the contact lens
Sphere (SPH) - The amount of long (+) or short (-) sight. The higher the number, the stronger the prescription lens required.
Cylinder (CYL) - The amount of astigmatism, or visual distortion, caused by an irregularly shaped cornea.
Axis - The direction of the astigmatism, measured in degrees. If you have a value for axis you must give us a value for cylinder.
It is important to select the correct parameters for each eye so be sure to double check your prescription, to make sure!
